Best Record Stores in Berlin: Our Curated Guide

Berlin is one of Europe’s great cities for record shopping. Rather than listing every vinyl store in town, we’ve put together a curated selection of shops we’ve personally visited and recommend. Each has its own character, specialties and reasons to stop by.
This is the old Hardwax we still love
Hard Wax
Typical Berlin style: tucked away in a courtyard, up a set of creaky stairs and covered in stickers. Inside you’ll find several turntables where you can listen to your discoveries before buying, as well as a selection of books.
The shop is best known for techno, but you’ll also find a smaller selection of 7-inch records, including Studio 1 releases, reggae and dub.
In autumn 2023, Hard Wax moved from its sticker-covered home on Paul-Lincke-Ufer to the Kraftwerk building, which also houses the legendary Tresor club. It had been at its original location for 27 years.

A niche record store specialising in metal, punk and other underground genres. Don’t be surprised if you don’t recognise a single artist in an entire crate. The walls are decorated with beautiful black-and-white photographs, the record selection is lovingly curated, and there’s also a small but well-chosen cassette section.
Their Facebook page is also worth following, with knowledgeable posts about both new releases and older records that reflect the same passion and expertise as the shop itself.

Core Tex
Located in the heart of Kreuzberg, Core Tex is one of Berlin’s best-known punk and hardcore institutions. The shop offers a huge selection of records alongside clothing, footwear, books, fanzines and plenty of band merchandise. If punk, hardcore or alternative music is your thing, this is a place you’ll want to visit.

A slightly quirky basement record shop that’s easy to spot thanks to the vinyl records hanging outside and its eclectic signs. Everything feels a bit improvised and delightfully unpolished, but that’s part of the charm—you never know what hidden gems or long-forgotten records you’ll come across.

Sound Metaphors
A small, thoughtfully curated record store with a strong focus on ambient, experimental music and other left-field discoveries. Many records come with handwritten notes explaining what makes a particular release special, making browsing almost as enjoyable as listening. There’s also a good selection of second-hand vinyl and a small range of clothing.

Soul, jazz, breakbeat, electronic music, nu jazz and much more. Soultrade has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that invites you to slow down and browse. It’s the kind of record shop where spending an hour digging through the bins feels like time well spent.

Unlike most record shops, HHV feels more like an urban fashion and lifestyle store, with records sitting alongside clothing, books and accessories. OYE is one of Berlin’s best-known record stores, offering a carefully curated mix of new releases, second-hand vinyl and DJ equipment. The selection leans towards electronic music, house, techno and related genres, and the knowledgeable staff make it a favourite with both locals and visiting DJs. The shop is also surrounded by plenty of cafés, bars and independent boutiques, making it easy to spend a few hours exploring the neighbourhood.
