For a quarter of a century, the exhibition venue has focused on wide-ranging topics and perspectives of photography and visual media with great commitment and openness.

A bit of history

Beginning as a private initiative at the Postfuhramt in Berlin in 2000, C/O Berlin relocated to Linienstrasse and then returned to the Postfuhramt before making its

final move to Amerika Haus in 2014. Each of these places shaped the institution’s development: from the first retrospective on the photo agency Magnum at the Postfuhramt to the formative years on Linienstrasse with a focus on documentary photography, including artists such as Anton Corbijn and Barbara Klemm. Upon returning to the Postfuhramt, there was a new emphasis on international names such as Annie Leibovitz, Nan Goldin, and Peter Lindbergh, as well as on the Talent Award, established in 2006, with recipients such as Tobias Zielony (Artist, 2007) and Florian Ebner (Theorist, 2006).

Across generations

Since Amerika Haus became the location of C/O Berlin, it has been a venue for exhibitions promoting young talent across the generations, education, and public discourse on the role of photography. C/O Berlin is now one of the most well- respected institutions on an international scale in the area of visual media. Over 250 exhibitions on over 500 artists, the promotion of over 90 young talents, and the continual development of education and events programs document C/O Berlin’s development into an internationally celebrated exhibition center that makes a decisive contribution to the public discourse on photography.

Celebrations with free admission

To celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary, C/O Berlin has a wide-ranging program of summer events. One of the featured exhibitions is the group show Documentary in Flux, which explores the nearly two decades of the C/O Berlin Talent Award. In conjunction with the exhibition, we will host a discussion on the promotion of young talent in collaboration with the Ostkreuzschule.

The celebration culminates with the Open House—C/O Berlin Birthday Special on July 20, 2025, including free admission, music, guided tours, a live act, and an open-air film screening.
